Summary
While investigating her mother’s disappearance Crystal’s bloodline leads a supernatural council to hunt her down for her latent magic. Love, lies, and long buried secrets change her life forever.
Sixteen-year-old Crystal Dylan has been marked by the waning crescent due to her latent diviner heritage. The magic from her is a beacon to any nearby supernatural beings, especially energy serpents, vampires sent by the Divine Council to capture her. She never believed in the strange, the superstitious, or magical until she started looking for her long-thought-dead mother. Too many attacks on her aura have left her drained, dying, and vulnerable leaving Victor no choice but to try anything to help her, even the serpent’s kiss.
The Divine Council was looking for the lost heir, and Damien, a drawn class serpent, was their retrieval system with an agenda of his own. Crystal’s memories are being manipulated, and she struggles to find the truth about who she loves, what happened to her mother, who she is, and how to stay alive long enough to figure it all out.
My Review
4 Stars
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Blood Crescent was the first book I have read by McCoy, but it certainly will not be my last.
This book is a headlong dive into a very well-built world of madness, a chaotic journey to discover truths, and a unique take on vampires (which I found refreshing). It is no secret that I am a big fan of fantasy and I love it when I come across one that makes me feel like I am being introduced to a different part of that genre. I think my favorite part of Blood Crescent had to be the complete chaos of everything Crystal was going through. It kept me on my toes and wanting to read until I was able to see where it all came together. Of course, this is only book one, so I have to wait to get my hands on the next book to find out more.
There are a vast amount of characters and details that can leave you a bit mixed up, but I feel that only helped me to connect with Crystal and what she was going through all the more. Proper world-building has always been something I deeply enjoy and even though all the information could be a bit overwhelming, I did not feel like I missed out on anything from the story. I look forward to getting more pulled into to this supernatural story with book two.
